Winter Choir Concert

Welcome to a new year in St Abe’s Concert Choir with Fr. Rob Patterson! Our class meets twice per week. In order to get the most out of our time together, here are some guidelines for our rehearsals.

Come to class with a positive attitude.

Show respect to everyone in the room.

Sign in before class starts. If you are not signed in on time you are tardy.

No food or gum is allowed during rehearsals. Water is allowed.

Consistently notate in your score.

Be attentive and actively participate in rehearsal.

Remember, how you rehearse is how you will perform.
Spring Choir Concert
Thursday May 10th
UPPER SCHOOL CHOIR
Participation - 50% This includes attendance and all in class singing, solo work, sight-reading, and concerts. Tardies earn 5 out of 10 points. As an important culmination of a student’s musical growth, concerts and run-through rehearsals are mandatory. No shows automatically receive a “0”. Extenuating circumstances (eg. family emergencies) will be discussed between parent and teacher.
Quizzes & Coursework - 25% There will be written theory and sung musicianship quizzes. Students will also complete reading and writing assignments, including critical listening analyses of recordings and performances. Section
Rehearsals - 25% Students must attend a weekly 15 minute section rehearsal. These are scheduled and led by a student Section Leader. Section rehearsals are for the entire section to work together on becoming a cohesive section and fix trouble spots in the music.
Extra Credit Section Leaders receive extra credit. Students may earn extra credit by attending approved choral concerts and completing a critical listening analysis.

Both Jr. and Sr. High students may audition for the Central Coast Section Honor Choirs. Auditions will be in October, and the performance will be Jan 18-20, 2018. This is a great opportunity to sing with a hundred other honor choir students from Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito and San Luis Obispo Counties, under the direction of a university level conductor.
